The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) serves San Antonio and the 50,000-square-mile area of South Texas. It extends to campuses in the metropolitan border communities of Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley. More than 3,000 students a year train in an environment that involves more than 100 affiliated hospitals, clinics and health care facilities in South Texas.

For over 40 years the Dental School at UTHSCA has graduated top oral healthcare professionals, conducted pioneering research, and successfully treated tens of thousands of patients in San Antonio and across South Texas.

The Dental School planned to launch its first magazine, SalUTE, in Summer 2014. UTHSCSA’s Communications Dept. hired Bastian for editorial assistance. She was tasked with job to write features about the Dental School’s history and major accomplishments. She also was asked to interview a Founding teacher emeritus to get his recollections about the “early days” of the institution, and insights on how much the School has grown in the ensuing decades.  The magazine is set to be published annually.
