Meeting Planners International (MPI) is the global voice of the meeting planners industry. Founded in 1972, the Dallas-based non-profit association has more than 18,500 members representing 86 countries associated with 70 clubs and chapters.
MPI’s monthly member magazine began in 1980 as The Meeting Manager, and in 1997 transformed to The Meeting Professional because members told MPI leaders “we do more than just manage meetings, we are meeting professionals.”
MPI members network and learn via its global chapter events. In addition, many attend MPI’s four annual conferences: the World Education Congress (summer), the MeetDifferent (winter), the Asian Meetings and Event Conference (fall), and the European Meeting and Events Conference (spring).
As Contributing Writer from 1988 to 1996, Bastian wrote well over 60 feature stories (1,500 to 2,000 words in length) about all aspects of the meetings industry; its people, leaders, trends, tools and issues. The majority of these articles were cover stories. At the time, the global magazine had an estimated monthly circulation of 42,000.
Bastian also was hired as a writer, editor and photographer to help produce a daily conference newspaper published, onsite, for four consecutive days at one of MPI’s international annual meetings held in Vancouver, Canada.
