Great American Insurance Group’s roots go back to 1872 with the founding of its flagship company, Great American Insurance Company. Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, the operations of Great American Insurance Group are engaged primarily in property and casualty insurance, focusing on specialty commercial products for businesses, and in the sale of traditional fixed and fixed-indexed annuities in the retail, financial institutions and education markets. The members of the Great American Insurance Group are subsidiaries of American Financial Group, Inc. (AFG), also based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A Cincinnati ad agency was charged with the task of creating a media kit (featuring multiple press releases) for its client, Great American Insurance Company. The media kit was all about the insurance firm’s new, innovative “Drug-Free Workplace Program.” The agency had hired a local freelance writer to write the publicity materials, but the draft copy delivered was not professional-grade work.
Bastian was called in by the agency to totally recreate, from scratch, all the media kit materials — and to do so within a tight timeframe to meet the client’s original deadline. Bastian produced the requested materials on time, and within budget. The client was quite pleased with the materials, and used them to garner a high volume of national publicity for its workplace drug program.
