Background investigation services are a significant CACI capability. The company has wide experience conducting background investigations on a worldwide basis for a diverse U.S. government customer base. CACI employs hundreds of fully qualified investigators who provide investigative services in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and other U.S. territories.

In Nov. 2011 CACI was selected as one of three prime contractors to provide background investigation fieldwork services for the U.S. government.  This contract from the Office of Personnel Management began with a 10-month base period, with four option years, and has a ceiling value of $2.5 billion.


Bastian is a part-time federal Special Investigator retained by the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Office of Personnel Management through her employer CACI International of Virginia.

Bastian’s work is part of first line of defense helping prevent potential threats to our national security. She does voluntary federal background investigations determining employment suitability, loyalty and security of persons requiring access to sensitive and/or classified U.S. government information. Investigations done for about 50 government agencies supporting some of the nation’s most sensitive missions. Bastian is cleared at Top Secret level (possesses favorably adjudicated SSBI).

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting face-to-face subject interviews to confirm existing data, and to gather new, relevant information about diverse areas of subject’s life.
  • Conducting face-to-face source/record interviews with employers, associates, references and other knowledgeable individuals and review appropriate records to obtain facts needed to resolve all material issues in a case — or to establish the background, reputation, character, suitability or qualifications of the subject under investigation.
  • Performing thorough record searches regarding subjects at police agencies, courthouses, educational institutions, financial institutions and medical/mental health facilities.
  • Writing detailed investigative reports which are revised, after a thorough review process, before being submitted to the requesting government agencies.

Bastian has been a freelance or PT/FT employee of CACI since January 2012.  She is a member of the Association of Contract Background Investigators (ACBI).


Interviewing, writing, editing, record searches, plus interaction with various law enforcement, military and government agency representatives.
