Project: Production of 2 annual diocesan directories

The Archdiocese of San Antonio encompasses 27,841 square miles in Texas, and includes the city of San Antonio as well as 16 surrounding counties. With Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller as its leader, the archdiocese serves the spiritual, educational, emotional and physical needs of over 2.4 million Catholics and others in the community. Among its various activities, the archdiocese operates and/or is associated with 29 elementary schools, 5 colleges and universities and 11 high schools. Today’s Catholic is the official newspaper publication of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, and provides the Catholic perspective on daily life for the archdiocese.

TASKS

The archidocese's publications department hired Bastian as Directory Coordinator twice for the Official Catholic Directory, published by Today’s Catholic. The project required Bastian to contact representatives of hundreds of organization listed in the guide to secure the latest/best information, and work collaboratively with Today’s Catholic staff members. Bastian used the  InDesign program to layout and publish the directories. Contact for updates was made via phone calls, emails, snail mail and/or in-person interviews within a short four-month window to successfully meet a tight production schedule. Bastian produced both the 300-page 2010 directory and the 298-page 2011 directory.
